Barley (Hordeum vulgare) is one of the oldest domesticated crops, with evidence of cultivation by ancient residents of Ethiopia and South East Asia where it has been cultivated 10,000 years ago. Mostly used as human and livestock food. Barley water was also used for medicinal purposes. Although commonly referred to as beer making, barley is a versatile grain that can be used in many shapes and recipes.
Whole grain barley flour is a Croatian organic product! Characterised by a mildly nutty flavour and soft, tender texture.
Barley flour is most often used in place of or blended with standard wheat flour in the preparation of pancakes, pies, cookies, muffins and other baked goods. Due to low gluten levels, this type of flour is not often used on its own in bread mixtures. Mixing with wheat flour will give better results and dough moisture.
