How many times have you come across the term superfood lately? Indeed, we are constantly surrounded by the term superfood, and we don’t really know exactly what it’s about. Stay with us and find out more!

Superfood is a term used to describe foods and sometimes drinks that have a high density of nutrients and therefore may have some associated health benefits. Superfoods are usually all-natural and plant-based, with minimal calories and are packed with vitamins and minerals.

There are a number of healthy foods which can be described as superfoods, which you can start adding to your diet straight away. Here are some of our top picks!

Chia seeds

Chia seeds have become more and more popular over the past few years, mainly thanks to their numerous nutritional benefits. Rich in fatty acids, fibre and protein, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, minerals and antioxidants. They lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease and improve digestion.

Combine them with cereals, yoghurt, as an addition to various fruit and vegetable juices or cakes, or add in various sauces or salads. The only recommendation is to do this at the very end so that they do not lose nutrients by heat treatment. Before use, just soak them in water or some other liquid for about ten minutes.

For inspiration, check out the recipe below:

Maca powder

A superfood powder that can be easily added to your diet is maca powder. Made from the Peruvian root vegetable that’s been cultivated and enjoyed for centuries by the indigenous population of the Andes. Only growing at altitudes of over 3500 metres, maca thrives in inhospitable terrain.

Maca powder contains calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, silicon, iodine, vitamins B1, B2, B12, C and E, riboflavin, thiamine, ascorbic acid and essential fatty acids, and was once used as a food to strengthen forces before the fight.

It is excellent for relieving the symptoms of menopause, but also PMS, in hormonal disorders, and it has also been shown to be good in the treatment of infertility. What is most interesting about it is that it has been called natural Viagra for thousands of years, because it helps increase libido, but also energy.

The easiest way is to mix one dessert spoon twice a day into smoothies, juices, yoghurts or be used as a cooking ingredient turning everyday recipes for bread, cakes and cookies into healthy, nutritional treats for the family

Camu camu

Camu camu belongs to the fruit and is the most notable representative in terms of vitamin C content, which has as much as 12%, which is the highest known concentration in general.

Usually orange is the one we use when we want to get vitamin C in the body, but we definitely recommend that you try this food as well, because you will certainly not go wrong.

The strong action of vitamin C as an antioxidant is known, so mix Camu camu powder in juices, smoothies or fruits and vegetables to avoid winter colds.

This natural dietary supplement is also suitable for the treatment of asthma, viral infections and various pains and headaches.

Guarana

Guarana is a plant whose seeds contain a mixture of alkaloids in which we find 5% caffeine or guarana. The inhabitants of the region from which it comes also call it the "elixir of long life" because of its extremely beneficial ingredients.

The most well-known effect of this plant is certainly an increase in energy levels and concentration, but it is also characterized by help in the fight against depression, arteriosclerosis, stress and premature ageing.

Guarana can also regulate digestion, and if you look at the composition of cellulite removal products, you will surely find it on the list.

With just one to two teaspoons a day you will feel the positive effects of this amazing plant, and we recommend that it be an integral part of your juice or smoothie.

Goji berries

Many world sources say that goji berry is one of the most powerful plants in the world. In the West, they have been included in superfoods in recent years, mostly thanks to the position of first place in the American ORAC scale, which measures the antioxidant properties of food.

It is an astonishing fact that goji berries in 100 grams have fantastic 25,300 units as opposed to plums holding second place with 5,770 units in 100 grams.

It is for this reason that goji berries are the most ideal food for revitalizing the body and slowing down the ageing process. We usually use them in dried form, and they are the sweetest because they are easy to put in porridge, smoothie or your favourite muesli.

Coconut oil

The most important characteristics of coconut oil are lauric acid, which has antiviral and antibacterial effects that help the body protect against infectious diseases, and capric acid, which promotes the growth of "good bacteria" and especially lactic acid bacteria, which are extremely important for the digestive tract.

Unlike other oils we use, coconut oil is easily digestible and does not burden digestion, on the contrary, it helps to make better use of vitamins and minerals.

It has the effect of raising energy levels and boosting the immune system. It is ideal for use in the kitchen when preparing various foods and for preparing salads.

Like other superfoods, it can be used as an addition to a delicious smoothie. Also, this magic oil has many ways of application in hygiene, cosmetics and skin treatments.

To summarize, a superfood is definitely worth trying. Apart from being beneficial for our body, it is also a delicious addition to the daily diet.

The list of superfoods is quite long and you can certainly find everything you need HERE.
