There are only a handful of plants in the world that produce caffeine, and yerba mate is one of them. Yerba mate herb is used to produce a caffeinated beverage prepared as an infusion to create a tea-like beverage,  even though it doesn't contain any actual tea leaves.

Yerba mate infusion is a popular and favourite drink in South America. Obtained from a Yerba mate plant smoke-dried over barbacoa trees. The result is a slightly bitter and earthy yet tasty aroma of the final product that can be sweetened with honey, agave or sugar, or even diluted with some milk or cream, just like you would with a traditional tea.

Containing more caffeine than tea but less than coffee, mate tea could be the ideal solution if you are watching your caffeine intake.

Besides caffeine, Yerba mate is rich in tannins that have a relaxing effect on the body. Suggested use:

Add one teaspoon to a cup. Infuse with freshly boiled water (100°C) for 5 to 10 minutes and strain.
