Psyllium is a form of fibre made from the husks of a Plantago psyllium plant known for its high fibre content that is of vital importance for the normal function of the digestive system.

Hygroscopy, or the ability to attract and hold water molecules while expanding in volume, is one of the main features of psyllium husks, consequently making bowel movements much easier without increasing flatulence. In addition, this fibre-rich food possesses prebiotic properties - a source of food for your gut's healthy ''good'' bacteria.

Mix psyllium husks with yoghurt, water or juice and consume immediately. In contact with liquid, psyllium will expand and swell, therefore it is advisable to drink an additional glass of water or any liquid immediately after and increase fluid intake throughout the day. Psyllium husks are naturally gluten-free so their use is common in recipes for bread, pastries and cakes without eggs or as a thickener for soups and sauces.
